The event is an intensive week of workshops, lecturers and pre-moot court competition on international commercial arbitration, graced by various experienced legal practitioners from across the globe.
This year’s edition was attended by 16 Universities across the continent, with Strathmore University from Kenya emerging as the winner of the pre-moot.
The pre-moot is part of the long journey to the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot global main event which takes place in Vienna, Austria, every year, where this year 391 teams from different Universities across the globe, over 2500 students, will meet to exchange network, and challenge on their knowledge and skills on international commercial arbitration. The event will also be graced by 1200 coaches and 1200 legal practitioners (Arbitrators).
The East African pre-moot, organized by Africa in the Moot was launched as an initiative to help overcome obstacles preventing African Universities from participating in the global event in Vienna, at the time.
This year’s C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna is scheduled to take place from 11 to 17 April 2025. With the generous support of various external sponsors including the Karl-Heinz Foundation, the Kigali International Arbitration Center (KIAC), the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Rwanda Branch (CIArb Rwanda), ArbitralWomen, and K-Solutions & Partners, the University of Rwanda participated in the event in Vienna for the first time, last year and is set to participate again this year.
