Gikondo Campus (women) and Huye Campus (men) emerged as champions of the 2025 University of Rwanda Intercampus Volleyball Tournament, a spirited competition that brought together 16 teams ; eight male and eight female ; from UR campuses.
Organized to energize campus sports and give students a platform to showcase their talent, the three-day tournament featured intense group-stage action, with each team playing three matches to determine the semifinalists.

In the men’s category, Huye and Nyarugenge campuses dominated from the onset, delivering thrilling performances. On the women’s side, Gikondo and Busogo campuses stood out with exceptional skills.
In the final matches Huye Campus narrowly edged out Nyarugenge to claim the men’s title, while Gikondo Campus defended their crown in the women’s division, defeating Busogo Campus to become champions for the second consecutive year.
Individual brilliance also shone through. Gatesi Fruit was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the women’s category, while Dushimurukundo Pacifique took home the MVP honor for the men’s category, both recognized for their outstanding contributions throughout the tournament.
Speaking after the event, Albert Kayiranga, UR’s Wellbeing, Sports, and Culture Specialist, emphasized the importance of such tournaments in nurturing talent and strengthening community among students.
“Beyond competition, these events help students relax, build friendships, and reinforce the culture of sports across our campuses,” he noted.
