Professor Nelson Ijumba holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde. Before joining the University of Rwanda as Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research (DVC AAR) he was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and a Professor of Electrical Engineering. His affiliations include, Professional Engineer ; Registered Engineer in both Kenya and Tanzania, member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), Fellow at SA Academy of Engineering, Senior member at SA Institute of Electrical Engineering, member of Academy of Sciences of South Africa and also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers - the world’s largest organization for professional Engineers.
As a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Prof. Ijumba has recently been elevated to the elite rank of IEEE Senior Members. His professional achievements and maturity led to his recognition as Elite of IEEE Senior Members of this year, 2017.
