Lecturers based in the Center for Language Enhancement (CLE) carry out research of different dimensions on four (4) languages mainly English, French, Kinyarwanda and Swahili. Studies carried out on these four languages fall under various themes of which language teaching and learning, language and linguistics, language and communication, literary studies as well as a variety of cross-cutting issues related to language and language teaching. We closely collaborate with Peace Corps volunteers and British Council in our language teaching and testing activities. We also work together with Educational Testing Service (ETS) to host candidates taking international tests namely TOEFL, GRE, and PRAXIS.
Academic Writing support UR undergraduate students tackle academic writing as a chapter in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) module. In addition, Academic Writing is a module offered to Postgraduate candidates to provide them with necessary research writing skills. Our center has got writing corners, one for each UR campus, that provide editing and proofreading services for UR students, academic staff, and other writers. The Centre for Language Enhancement (CLE) operates from different campuses of the University of Rwanda (UR). The CLE is mainly mandated to enhance UR students’ second and foreign language skills so as to help them widen their perception and interaction with the world. In this perspective, the centre offers a wide range of courses that aim at sharpening UR students’ English as the language of instruction, without neglecting other languages like French and Swahili.
